Highlights
- A kill from Lizzy Kirkton and a Mara Woolford ace, along with a pair of HU errors, gave EMU an early 4-2 lead. After Hollins tied things at four, EMU went on a 5-0 run, highlighted by a kill from Kirkton and a block from Madison Stockner and Laney Cline. The Royals continued to lead until three straight HU points gave them a 19-17 advantage. The two teams traded points to Hollins leading 23-20 before EMU answered with four of its own, a Woolford kill, an error and a Sophia Denby kill, to put EMU ahead 24-23. But three straight points from the Green and Gold closed out the set and gave them a 1-0 lead.
- Hollins took a 2-0 lead to open the second set before the Royals came roaring back with an 11-3 run to take an 11-5 lead. After HU cut the lead to give, EMU would extend it to double-digits with an 8-4 tilt, picking up kills from Denby, Cline and Woolford, along with a Megan Miller ace. Hollins would score just one more time in the set, as EMU finished off with six of the final seven points to knot the match at one.
- The Green and Gold once against started on top in set three, taking a 3-0 lead before EMU picked up five straight points to take the lead. After a pair of HU points tied things at five, the Royals broke the set open with a 10-1 run, taking a 15-6 lead. Hollins would chip away, eventually whittling the EMU lead to 18-12 and the teams would trade points to 23-16. EMU would finish out the set with back-to-back kills from Kirkton to take a 2-1 lead.
- Once again, it was Hollins taking an early lead in the final set, jumping ahead 6-4. But, EMU responded with four of the next five points off kills from Cline, Kirkton and Woolford as well as a Cline/Stockner block, to take a one-point lead. Later in the set, Hollins went on a 4-1 lead to take a slim 18-16 lead and force an EMU timeout. Out of the break, a 4-1 EMU run caused HU to take a timeout, down 20-19. The teams continued to fight, with the score tied at 21, before EMU closed out the match with four of the final five points, including a Cline kill and a Kirkton ace to wrap up the match.
