BUENA VISTA, Va. – Fresh off a Sunday win, the EMU Men's Soccer team made a short journey down I-81 to take on the Southern Virginia Knights of the USA South Conference. Down 3-0 with slightly under 25 minutes remaining, the Royals staged a valiant comeback effort. In the end though, EMU dropped the match to SVU 3-2.

Highlights
- 9' | SVU found the scoreboard first when the Royals fouled one of their players in the box, setting up a successful penalty kick by the Knights' Ammon Lewis.
- 38' | The Knights struck again off a corner kick sent home by Luke Hemenway, making the score 2-0 SVU at halftime.
- 66' | Lewis tallied his second goal of the contest, striking with his left foot on a breakaway.
- 73' | At this point, the Royals roared to life. Ariel Bonilla found the back of the net with his right foot following a throw-in by Logan Darrow and a header by Josiah King to put EMU on the board.
- 85' | It was EMU's turn for a penalty kick as Yan Cesar got tripped up by a SVU player inside the box. Cesar then booted home the PK to bring the Royals within one at 3-2.
- 89' | Cesar had a great opportunity to get the equalizer for EMU, but his strike sadly rang off the right goalpost. Time ran out on the Royals shortly thereafter.

What's Next
EMU Men's Soccer will look to bounce back this Saturday, Sept. 16 when they head back down I-81 to Staunton for a match against Mary Baldwin. It will be the Royals' last match before ODAC play begins. Kickoff against the Fighting Squirrels is set for 4 p.m.
