LANCASTER, Pa. - The Royals field hockey team kicked off the 2023 season Friday night, making the trip north to PA for a neutral site showdown with Neumann.
The Knights used a pair of first half goals and held on in the second half, handing EMU a 2-1 loss.

Highlights
- 9' - The Knights came out shooting in the first quarter, getting a pair blocked and Gracyn Arruda saving the third, before taking a 1-0 lead on a Grace Ginty goal in the ninth minute.
- 9' - EMU picked up a pair of shots from Elizabeth Longacre but the Neumann keeper saved them both keeping the Knights on top after one.
- 27' - Arruda came up with two more big saves to keep the deficit to one, until Michelle Hughes found the back of the cage. Neumann went into the break with a 2-0 advantage.
- 39' - In the second half, EMU ramped up the intensity, picking up a pair of shots from Kate Landis and Cassidy Armstrong. But with just under six minutes left in the quarter, Landis found Longacre, who beat the keeper, pulling EMU within one.
- The Royals picked up four more shots in the fourth quarter, but couldn't find the equalizer.
