Fourth Quarter
The Hornets were able to push their lead to eight and keep it there until just under four minutes left in the game. Trailing 54-46, EMU grabbed the momentum. Hamlet picked up a traditional three-point play, Lucas hit a jumper and Laila Glymph drained a pair of free throws to pull EMU within one. Hamlet made six straight free throws to give EMU a five-point lead with just 30 seconds left and it looked like they were heading for the win. But a pair of Hornet free throws, followed by a steal and a three at the buzzer sent shock through the crowd and the game to overtime.
Overtime
Lynchburg scored the first two points of the OT period but that was followed up by back-to-back monster threes from Lucas and Hamlet to put EMU ahead by four. Lynchburg battled back and re-took the lead and then exchanged it with EMU when the Royals went back on top 71-68. Another Lynchburg three with 23 seconds left made it seem like the game was going to a second OT before Hamlet's final second heroics secured the thrilling win for EMU.
