WINCHESTER, Va. – The Royals made their second trek up to Winchester this season, this time with their season on the line, to take on Shenandoah in the opening round of the ODAC Tournament.

A strong second quarter sent the Royals to the locker room down by four at the half. But Shenandoah came out strong in the third to pull away and pick up a 70-45 win.

Highlights

First Quarter

After a Hornet three to start the game, Mya Hamlet put EMU on the board with a layup. Later in the quarter, SU was able to extend their lead to seven before a Trinity Washington three cut the lead to four. Lauryn Moore hit a pair of free throws with less than a minute left, but SU ended the quarter on a 5-0 run to take a 22-11 lead after one.

Second Quarter

Shenandoah extended their lead to 15 with four straight to start the second, before EMU's defense clamped down and their offense picked up. EMU held Shenandoah to just five points over the final 8:49, outscoring them 16-5. Hamlet picked up eight in the quarter while Washington added five. Hamlet's layup and-one sent EMU to halftime trailing by just four, 31-27.

Third Quarter

It was a rough third quarter for the Royals as SU started it on a 20-0 run. EMU hit its first bucket, a three from Moore, with 1:48 left. Moore made another three in the final seconds, but SU led by 18 heading to the fourth.

Fourth Quarter

SU started the fourth on a 6-0 run, extending their lead to 57-33, before Washington hit a three. Laila Glymph, Hamlet and Washington added points for EMU but it wasn't enough as the Hornets ended the Royals season, advancing to the ODAC quarterfinals.
