Royals Down Goucher for Second Straight Win

BALTIMORE, Md. - Sitting down for a Thanksgiving feast...there's really nothing better. That is, unless you're sitting down to Thanksgiving dinner with a road win under your belt.

That's exactly what the Royals did on Tuesday. Three players were in double figures as EMU took down Goucher, 68-65, in a pre-Thanksgiving showdown.

Records: EMU 2-3, 0-0 ODAC | Goucher 1-2, 0-0 Landmark

Highlights

First Half
The teams traded points to start the game, with Goucher pulling ahead by as many as four, 10-6. But the next few minutes became the Kai Johnson and Ty Peterson show as the duo combined for 11 straight, to give EMU a 17-10 lead. The Royals continued to lead, but the Gophers were able to cut it to two with a 4-0 run, before Aaron Brooks pushed the lead back to four with 2:49 to play in the half. Leading 26-23, EMU picked up five straight from Jalen Jones and Jameel Davis before a pair of Goucher free throws made the score 31-25 at the half.

Second Half
Three point buckets from Daijordan Brown and Nick Ondrus sandwiched a Gopher three to start the second half, putting EMU ahead by nine. Three free throws from Aviwe Mahlong gave EMU a double-digit lead and they would hold a seven+ point lead for the next few minutes until Goucher was able to cut it to four with 8:30 left in the game. The Royals responded with five straight, a pair of free throws from Jalen Jones and a three from Ondrus, to move back in front by nine. They would keep the lead, hitting their free throws down the stretch, before a last second three from the Gophers made the final score closer than the last few minutes.
