Box Score DANVILLE, Va. - The EMU women's basketball team matched up against the Cougars of Averett University, Saturday afternoon, in a road ODAC game.
In a tight and hard-fought contest the Royals came up just short as Averett picked up the 76-68 win.

Highlights
First Quarter
The Royals stout defense in the first quarter gave them the advantage as they held the Cougars to 8 points on 14% shooting. Mya Hamlet was big for the Royals, scoring nine of the team's 12 first quarter points as EMU lead 12-8 after one.
Second Quarter
Averett's offense began to pick up in the next 10 minutes as they scored more than double the amount of points scored in the first quarter. The teams traded buckets down the stretch and went into the half tied at 26 after a Cougar layup at the buzzer went in. Caris Lucas played all 10 minutes in the second quarter and led the way with six points.
Third Quarter
The offenses exploded in the third quarter, as they combined for 57 points. The Cougars went on a 12-2 run to take a 15-point lead midway through the period but EMU responded with a run of their own to end the frame and trail by just seven heading to the fourth.
Fourth Quarter
Averett started the fourth on a 9-0 run to push their lead to 16 but an EMU comeback almost happened. Lauryn Moore caught fire in the fourth, scoring nine points, as EMU would pull within six, late. But a bucket and a pair of Cougar free throws secured the win for Averett.
