HARRISONBURG, Va. - The EMU women's soccer team kick off its Saturday with a morning matchup against Mary Baldwin. The Royals struck first and last in the match but those two goals sandwiched a trio of Fighting Squirrel goals as Mary Baldwin picked up the narrow 3-2 win.

Highlights

• 2' - EMU got on the board first and early. Hannah Dellinger played a pass into the box and found Amiah Carter who beat the MBU keeper to give EMU a 1-0 lead. 
• 13' - Mary Baldwin picked up the equalizer in the 13th minute. Sam Manfre fed a pass to Shea Rider who was able to find the back of the net to tie things at one. 
• 35' - MBU's Brianna Kehoe gave the Fighting Squirrels the lead just before halftime to send the Royals to the break down a goal. 
• 64' - The Royals defense clamped down to start the second half, holding Mary Baldwin without a shot on goal for the first 20 minutes of the half. But in the 64th minute, Sydney Kirkpatrick put a shot past Aja Laun that would prove to the game-winner. 
• 83' - The Royals weren't going down without a fight thanks to a late goal. A Hailey Smith corner kick found the head of a Mary Baldwin player who sent it in the net for an own goal and cut the EMU deficit to one. Unfortunately, EMU wasn't able to pick up another shot in the final seven minutes as they dropped a one-goal decision.

The Royals will play their first road match of 2022 on Monday when they head to Buena Vista for a date with Southern Virginia. Kickoff is 7:00 pm.
