Box Score VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. - The Royals picked up a key ODAC win on Tuesday, taking down the Marlins of Virginia Wesleyan by a final tally of 63-51.
Behind Brii Redfearn's double-double, the Royals gain traction into the final week's of the regular season.
Highlights
- After the Marlins hopped on the board first with over eight minutes left in the first period, Mya Hamlet gave the Royals their first lead of the night with a three pointer. Claiborne Poston was credited with the assist on the play.
- After falling 15-11, the Royals ended the first period on an 8-2 run, capped off by a driving layup from Hamlet to push the score to 19-15 in favor of EMU.
- The second period started with a tough back-and-forth between the two teams. Hamlet found Poston with an open look where she sank the contested three to kick off a 16-0 run for the Royals, giving them some cushion and putting the score at 37-21.
- KK Johnson sank a jumper from inside of the arc to finish the scoring for EMU in the first half. The Royals were looking at a 37-23 advantage at the conclusion of the first half behind a stellar offensive and defensive display.
- The Marlins began to show life in the third period, keeping themselves close to the equally offensive Royals. EMU still held the advantage in the third period, 18-14.
- Depsite a push from VWU in the fourth, the early advantage was the difference maker in the game, helping EMU take the decisive ODAC win by its final tally of 63-51.
