Box Score HARRISONBURG, Va. - The Royals took a lead into the half, playing solid basketball against the visiting Hollins basketball team.
A late offensive surge from the opponents was the difference maker, though, with Hollins coming out on the winning end by a final score of 62-45.
Highlights
- After falling in a quick 4-0 deficit, Claiborne Poston gave the Royals some momentum early in the first period. Sinking a three to start the night and draining a short jumper gave EMU a quick punch to go up 5-4.
- Down 10-8, Constance Komara found the ball from KK Johnson and sank the deep three to give the Royals the lead at 11-10. They carried the lead into the second period where the steady stream of strong offense and defense continued.
- The Royals found themselves with a 28-22 cushion with just over a minute left to play in the half. A steal from Brii Redfearn with 10 seconds on the clock started an exciting play in the waning seconds. Redfearn found Komara underneath the basket, who threw up a last second layup and just beat the buzzer to send EMU into the half up, 30-22.
- After a strong run from Hollins gave them the lead at 34-32, Poston made her way around the Hollins' defenders and sank a contested jumper to even up the tally and try to spark some life into the Royals.
- Poston gave the Royals the lead with just over a minute left in the third period with another solid jump shot from inside of the arc. At the end of the period, the Royals still held tightly to their slim lead of 41-39.
- The final period of play was all Hollins as they were able to thwart the Royals' offense and overtake the game. Despite playing stronger the majority of the contest, the Royals ultimately fell by its finall tally of 62-45.
What's Next
The Royals will play in Yoder Arena again on Saturday, Feb. 19 with tip off scheduled for 4:30 PM. It will be senior day, celebrating the hard work of the seniors for the women's basketball team.
