DANVILLE, Va. – The EMU women's volleyball team wrapped up their weekend road trip on Saturday, taking on Danville in the first ODAC meeting between the two teams.

It was the Cougars who were able to pick up the home win, 3-0 (25-14, 25-14, 25-22) over EMU.

Highlights

Set One

The Royals jumped out to a quick 2-1 lead after a pair of Cougar errors before Averett responded with a 3-0 run to take the lead before Lizzy Kirkton pulled EMU back within one. Averett would keep the lead and would get it as big as seven at 19-12 before another Kirkton kill pulled back within six. Unfortunately, EMU would only be able to pick up one more point in the set as AU went ahead 1-0.

Set Two

EMU started out ahead in the second set and stayed ahead to 10-9 with kills from Paris Hutchinson, Laney Cline and Bri Leeper. Averett would then answer with a 10-0 run to force EMU to use both of their timeouts. Out of the break, another Hutchinson kill would stop the run and Cline would pickup two more kills but Averett finished off the set by taking advantage of an EMU service error to pull ahead 2-0.

Set Three

Annie Dunford started the third set with a strong service game and EMU used points from Madelyn See, Mara Woolford and a pair of aces to take a 6-1 lead, causing the Cougars to call timeout. More kills from Hutchinson and Cline pushed EMU's lead to 10-4 but, AU answered, going on a 10-1 tilt to take the lead, 17-12. EMU would battle back, scoring five of the next seven to pull within two and, later, trailing 24-19, would go on a 3-0 run with a kill and ace from Woolford to cut the lead to two. But a Cougar kill ended the match.

What's Next

EMU will head to Buena Vista on Tuesday for a non-conference matchup at Southern Virginia. First serve is scheduled for 6 pm.
