Fourth Period Comeback Attempt Falls Short At Guilford

Box Score

HARRISONBURG, Va. - The Royals made their way back to the court for the first time in 19 days, traveling to Greensboro, N.C. to take on the Quakers of Guilford College.

After a tough third period, the Royals mounted a comeback attempt in the fourth, but fell just short in the contest, losing by a margin of 67-62.

Highlights

  • The Royals kickstarted the offense in the game, going on a quick 6-0 run with jumpshots sank from the big three: Brii Redfearn, Constance Komara, and Mya Hamlet
  • After the Quakers answered with four of their own, Laila Glymph gave offensive life back to the Royals. The sophomore stole the ball from Guilford's attack attempt and sank the driving layup.
  • The two teams went back-and-forth for the remainder of the first period to even up the tally at the buzzer with a score of 12-12.
  • The offense in the second period took a bit to get going, but the Royals finally tapped into the resting offensive energy. An 8-0 run capped off by a Redfearn jumpshot gave the Royals a 22-14 lead and forcing the Quakers into a timeout. From there, the two teams would battle it out for the remainder of the period and sent the game into halftime with the Quakers holding a slight margin of 33-29.
  • Down the stretch of the third period, Guilford went on a powerful 12-0 run to give them a sizeable lead heading into the fourth period.
  • The tune switched in the fourth period for the Royals, with the team coming out firing on the needed cylinders. Glymph finished a three-point play at the 5:44 mark to kickstart the Royals' comeback attempt.
  • Komara sank a jumpshot inside of the arc with 3:15 left to play to even up the score 59-59 and cut the deficit completely for EMU.
  • Guilfor held a slight advantage down the stretch, keeping the Royals just out of reach in the contest.
