EMU Falls To Visiting Hornets

Box Score

HARRISONBURG, Va. - The Royals played for the second time in two days on Tuesday, hosting the Hornets from Shenandoah in another ODAC game.

The team played hard, staying toe-to-toe with the Hornets until late, but ultimately fell in the contest by a final score of 68-48.

Highlights

  • Trinity Price continued to be an offensive force for the Royals early in the contest, knocking in the first basket of the game for EMU. After a key stop by the Royals, Mya Hamlet drove to the basket and sank a layup under pressure, drawing the foul. After sinking the free throw, the score was tied at 5-5.
  • In the final minute of the first period, sophomore Laila Glymph grabbed a contested defensive rebound and drove down the court. After finding Brii Redfearn with a look, the first-year drove to the basket and sank the layup to cut into the Shenandoah lead.
  • EMU attacked first in the second period. After a Hamlet free throw, the Royals worked to get the ball back quickly. Price found an open look inside of the arc and sank the jumpshot to put momentum on the Royals' side early in the period.
  • After a Hornets basket, the Royals knew they needed to answer quickly. The senior Constance Komara took matters into her own hands, finding an open look at the top of the key and sinking the deep three to continue to cut into the opponents' lead.
  • With time ticking down in the first half, Komara found Price with another open look, who took advantage and put the Royals within nine heading into halftime.
  • In the third period, with under two minutes to play, Lauryn Moore looked to sway the momentum back to the Royals' side. With a look at the basket from outside the arc, the first-year sank a clean three. Shortly thereafter, Moore found Redfearn with an open look and she sank the inside jumper to put EMU within 10.
  • The Hornets managed to pull away in the final period despite tough play from the Royals, ending the game at its final tally of 68-48.
  • Komara, Redfearn, and Price each had double-digit points on the night. Komara knocked down 15, Redfearn hit 12, and Price notched 10 in the contest.
