ROANOKE, Va. - The Royals found themselves in a fight yet again, one where each shot counted and each defensive stop was needed. 

There was fight until the end, but EMU found themselves on the losing end against Hollins University, 54-49.

Highlights

• It was a back-and-forth affair in the first period. The Royals pushed themselves out to a 8-2 lead early in the game, capped off by a Laila Glymph steal and score with 5:40 left.
• EMU continued to keep on the pressure, going up by eight quickly after a timeout was called. Lauryn Moore found Constance Komara with an open look, who quickly turned around and sank the short jumper to keep the momentum on their side.
• Down 14-12 to begin the second period, the Royals looked to get momentum back on their side. After a scoreless few minutes, Komara tied it up again after Glymph found her underneath the basket for an easy score. Mya Hamlet took the lead back for EMU with a driving layup shortly after, pushing the score to 16-14.
• After falling behind two again, Claiborne Poston wanted to even the tally back up. Finding Moore underneath with a smooth no-look pass, the first-year underneath sank the easy layup to tie the score at 16 apiece.
• Poston wanted to keep the scoring moving, dishing the ball to a driving Redfearn to get ahead again 20-18 late in the second period.
• The final two periods of play were decided by a single point, with both teams playing hard until the final buzzer. With the Royals down by three in the final seconds of play, Hamlet threw up one final three-point attempt, just narrowly missing and sending Hollins away with the win. 
• Redfearn notched a double-double in the contest, collecting 14 points and 16 rebounds. Poston notched eleven off of the bench and three Royals scored six. 

What's Next

The Royals will need to reset quickly, hosting the Shenandoah Hornets on Tuesday, Jan. 25 in another ODAC matchup with tip off scheduled for 7:00 PM.
