Box Score ASHLAND, Va. - The Royals traveled to Randolph-Macon on Saturday to play a rescheduled game against the Yellow Jackets.
Despite battling it out until the final buzzer, the Royals fell by a score of 86-75 in the ODAC contest.
Highlights
- The Royals hopped on the board first with Trinity Price knocking down a free throw after a tough play sent her to the line. Thereafter, the Yellow Jackets went on a small run until Brii Redfearn knocked down a jumpshot inside of the arc to put the score at 7-3 in favor of Randolph-Macon early in the contest.
- The two teams continued to battle through the rest of the first period. In the final seconds, Redfearn knocked down another jumpshot to put the Royals within one, but a Yellow Jacket basket put the score at 27-24 at the end of the first period.
- The second period had a massive shift in storyline, with the defense from both teams on full display. Tied at 37 a piece with under a minute to go, the Yellow Jackets took the advantage and sent the game into the half with the smallest of margins, 39-38.
- The offense kicked back into gear in third, with the two teams remaining neck-and-neck throughout. With time ticking down, Claiborne Poston, in just her second game back from injury, knocked down a three with time expiring to put the Royals within three.
- The Yellow Jackets took over down the stretch, outscoring the Royals 24-16 in the final period to push the game to its final tally of 86-75.
- Mya Hamlet and Price led the scoring for the Royals, both knocking down 16 points in the contest. Poston added 14 with senior Constance Komara adding 10.
What's Next
The Royals will not have to wait long for a rematch, hosting Randolph-Macon on Wednesday, Jan. 19 in another ODAC matchup scheduled for 7:00 PM.
