Royals Take Down Marlins For First ODAC Win

Box Score

HARRISONBURG, Va. - For the first time in over a month, the Royals' women's basketball team made their way onto Yoder Arena in front of their home fans.

Taking on the Marlins of Virginia Wesleyan, EMU was able to gut out a win in front of their Rowdy Royals crowd by a margin of 69-53.

Highlights

  • The two teams battled right after tipoff, trading shots to have the score evened up at 4-4 quickly into the game. From there, the Royals went on an 11-0 run started off when Mya Hamlet found Laila Glymph underneath the basket for an easy layup and capped off by a Claiborne Poston jumpshot.
  • After a few more trading of shots, the Royals were able to pull out to a 10-point lead when Brii Redfearn sank a driving layup with time expiring in the first period.
  • In the second period, the Royals were able to outscore the Marlins 18-8 behind an impressive performance from Poston. Sinking two from outside of the arc and dishing out three assists, the sophomore point guard helped give some space for the Royals.
  • At the 2:57 mark in the third period, Redfearn found Lauryn Moore across the court with an open shot. Moore sank the deep three to push the Royals' lead out to 53-34 with the finish line in sight.
  • Despite being outscored in the third period, the Royals bounced back in the fourth to keep their lead afloat. Down the stretch, EMU held the Marlins at bay to ultimately take down the visitors by its final tally.
