Fayetteville, N.C. - The EMU soccer women were bested by Methodist University in their first match of the season. The Royals held the defending USA South West Division champion Monarchs to two goals, but were unable to get anything going offensively, ultimately falling by a final tally of 2-0.

Highlights

• The Royals held the Monarchs scoreless until the Natalia Marshall-Hewitt of Methodist broke through with a goal in the 17th minute.
• In the 26th minute, the Royals threatened to even the score with two shots from Hannah York and Samm Livermore.
• EMU attacked again early in the second half with Ashley Iscoa taking a shot, but it was blocked by the Monarchs' defense. 
• Methodist extended their lead in the 64th minute of the match with a goal from Haley Strain, pushing the score to 2-0.
• Hannah York led the Royals with two shots on goal.

What's Next

Due to the cancellation of EMU's away match at William Peace on Sunday, the Royals will have to wait until Wednesday, Sept. 8 to hit the pitch again. They travel to St. Mary's (Md.) looking to bounce back and get into the win column.
