Box Score Staunton, Va. - Coming off of their first win of the season, the EMU women's soccer team made their way back to the pitch, looking to notch another tally in the win column at Mary Baldwin. In a match where most of the offense contained itself to the first half, the Royals held onto the tight margin of 2-1 to take the win back down I-81.
Highlights
- The Royals got on the board quickly in the contest. In the first minute, Halie Mast took a shot on goal that was saved by the Mary Baldwin goalkeeper, but Ashley Iscoa was there for the deflection, booting the ball into the back of the net to give the Royals the early lead.
- Shortly after EMU's goal, Mary Baldwin evened the tally with a goal of their own in the second minute of the match. Shea Rider made the unassisted goal for the Fighting Squirrels to tie up the match.
- Both teams traded shots for the next part of the match before the Royals broke through again. Lyndsay Harris knocked in her second goal of the season in the 29th minute to give the Royals the lead.
- Despite being unable to get anything in the back of the net for themselves, EMU held the Mary Baldwin offense off in the second half, holding on to the tight lead to come out of the match with the win.
