Royals Topped By Marlins On The Road

The EMU volleyball women traveled to Virginia Wesleyan on Sunday looking to get back into the winning column. The Marlins defeated the Royals in four sets, dropping the Royals to 4-6 overall, 3-5 in conference. VWU improved their record to 8-1 overall and remaining undefeated in the ODAC at 6-0.

The Marlins came out of the gate strong, decisively winning the first set 25-10. EMU improved in the second set, but ultimately fell, falling behind 2-0. 

The Royals took the third set in the match. Paris Hutchinson (Waynesboro, Va./Wilson Memorial) knocked a kill to get the final point, bringing life to the Royals, but still needing two more sets to take the match. 

VWU turned it around in the fourth set, taking down the Royals by a score of 25-15 to take the match. 

Hutchinson led the attack for the Royals, notching 14 kills in the match. Hannah Johnson (Staunton, Va./Wilson Memorial) added nine kills on the day. 

Tori Wigley (Elkton, Va./East Rockingham) had 32 assists in the contest with Abby Kaufman (Maplewood, Mo./Maplewood Richmond Heights) notching 19 digs. 

The Royals hit the court again on Thursday, Apr. 15, hosting the Shenandoah Hornets in an important ODAC match.
