EMU Drops Match Against Visiting Maroons

Box Score

The Eastern Mennonite soccer women hosted the Roanoke Maroons in a midweek ODAC contest on Thursday, falling handily to the visiting opponent, 6-0.

The loss puts the Royals at 0-4 on the year, with the Maroons jumping to 4-3-1, 3-1-0 in the ODAC

The first half was an even match, with the Royals playing tight defense to keep the game within reach. The Maroons' Eliza Ryan scored the first goal of the match in the 15th minute of play.

EMU kept the game within one for the rest of the half, looking to make a push in the second half.

Roanoke's offense kicked into high gear in the second period, accumulating 5 total goals.

With the match winding down, the Royals looked to get on the board with Hannah York (Richmond, Va./John Randolph Tucker) driving down the pitch. She would draw a penalty, but handed it over to Rachel Sauder (Lyndhurst, Va./Stuarts Draft) to take the shot, but it would ultimately go wide. The Royals reset and got another look at the goal and Sauder struck another one towards the goal, but it was saved by the Maroons' goalkeeper.

Anna Filipkowski (Louisa, Va./Louisa County) grabbed 12 total saves on the night.

The women hit the pitch again on Sunday, Mar. 28 at home, hosting Emory & Henry in another critical ODAC contest.
