Box Score The Eastern Mennonite women's soccer team looked to make their way into the win column, traveling to Guilford to take on the Quakers. The Royals came up on the short end, though, falling in the close contest by a score of 1-0.
EMU fell to 0-3-0 on the season after the loss, with the Quakers earning their first victory on the year, now sitting at 1-3-0.
The first period had limited offense, with both teams having difficulty getting decent looks at the goal.
The Quakers were able to muster a couple of attempts, with shots from Guilford's Crystal Rivas and Gracie Mayer within minutes of each other. The shots would not fall, keeping the score even.
The final shot in the period came from Guilford's Kaylee Zabava with under 10 seconds left, but the shot went wide, sending the contest into the second period with both teams locked at 0-0.
The Quakers were able to knock one in the back of the net in the 57th minute of the game with a goal from Rivas. With the goal, Guilford found themselves with a one goal lead, but with a considerable amount of time left on the clock for the Royals to get something going.
In the 72nd minute, Hannah York (Richmond, Va./John Randolph Tucker) found an opening and took the equalizing shot, but Guilford's Aubrey Gunther was able to knock the shot away.
As time ran out, the Royals were unable to get anything offensive going, pushing Guilford to the slim victory.
The Royals are back in action on Thursday, Mar. 18, traveling to Randolph-Macon to take on the Yellow Jackets in a rescheduled contest.
