Box Score HARRISONBURG, Va. - The Eastern Mennonite women's basketball team hosted the Ferrum Panthers on Wednesday, looking get back into the win column and pick up that first conference win.
A tough third period for the Royals was the difference-maker in the contest, pushing the Panthers ahead enough to come out with the win, 65-52.
Highlights
- Both team came out shooting early in the game, finding quick opportunities and taking advantage of them. First-year Mya Hamlet proved to be a force early on, making back-to-back layups to put the tally at 5-5 in the first period.
- The Panthers pulled out 10-5, but a 7-0 run to finish out the period, highlighted by Lauryn Moore's quick layup and subsequent three-pointer, put the Royals with the advantage after a period of play.
- The second period told the same story as the first, with both teams taking consistent punches on the other. The starting five for the Royals spread the wealth throughout the period, with Constance Komara leading the charge with four points in the period, but Ferrum pulled ahead, 16-10.
- The Panthers held the advantage throughout the third period of play, pulling ahead by a considerable amount. Hamlet found herself in the center of the action down the stretch of the period, though, giving the Royals life heading into the fourth and final period.
- At the beginning of the fourth, a three-pointer from Trinity Price and a quick jumpshot from Hamlet kept the momentum on EMU's side. Laila Glymph and Price scored again to put the Royals within eight.
- The Panthers ended up holding the advantage for the remainder of the game, taking it to the end and defeating the Royals by the final tally of 65-52.
What's Next
The Royals will have some time off, coming back to the court on December 20. They will take a trip to Hood College for a non-conference matchup.
