Box Score CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - A strong battle between both teams came down to the final minutes in Pennsylvania between EMU and Wilson College.
Ultimately, the Royals fell in the contest by a score of 67-64, but impressive showings yet again prove to be the main storyline as EMU's women's basketball team continue to look for their consistent stride early in the season.
Highlights
- The Royals hit the scoreboard first in the contest when Trinity Price found Brii Redfearn with an open lane who sank it at the 8:28 mark to start the scoring.
- Wilson went on a 7-0 run until Mya Hamlet found Constance Komara underneath the basket for a look. Komara made her away around the defenders to put a dent into Wilson's lead.
- Hamlet took matters into her own hands in the final minutes of the first period, giving the Royals the lead with a made free throw after scoring twice before. A made jump shot from Wilson's Naomi Hanton gave the Phoenix the lead heading into the second period.
- Wilson took charge in the second period, outscoring the Royals 19-11 to give them a sizeable lead heading into the half.
- Hamlet went to the line twice in the opening minutes of the third period, sinking one on each attempt to kick off a comeback attempt. A made free throw and jumpshot from Price put the Royals within one at 31-32 with 6:37 left to play in the third period.
- The next few minutes had tough defense played from both teams. Komara found herself at the line and sank two free throws to give the Royals the lead again at 35-34 with 3:16 left in the third period of play. The Phoenix would go on a 9-2 run to close out the period though, heading into the fourth ahead 43-37 despite EMU outscoring them 14-11 in the third.
- An outburst of offense from both teams was the identity of the fourth period. After finding themselves down by 11 at one point, the Royals battled back and put themselves within three off a layup from Redfearn.
- Down 53-43 with about seven minutes to go, KK johnson stole the ball from the Phoenix and would go on to sink back-to-back three pointers to put a large dent in Wilson's lead.
- With time running down, Johnson shot a three to try and tie up the game but narrowly missed. Komara sank one more jumper inside the arc at the buzzer to put the score at 67-64 in favor of the Phoenix
By The Numbers
- 3 - Redfearn notched her third double-double of the young season with 14 points and 20 rebounds. She was just off the EMU record for rebounds in a game, which currently sits at 24.
What's Next
The Royals are back in Yoder Arena next Tuesday, Nov. 23, hosting Penn-State Altoona. Tipoff is scheduled for 5:00pm.
