Big Second Quarter Sparks Royals Win at Home

Box Score

HARRISONBURG, Va. – EMU welcomed the cold back to Harrisonburg on Saturday with a hot shooting performance.

The Royals shot 45% from the floor and 45% from three en route to a 76-62 home win over Lancaster Bible.

Highlights

  • Trinity Price got the scoring started for EMU. She grabbed an offensive rebound and had the putback to give the Royals a 2-0 lead to start the game. LBC tied things at the 7:51 mark but EMU was able to re-take the lead on free throws from Mya Hamlet and Constance Komara.
  • The teams traded first quarter baskets with EMU holding a slight 9-7 lead. The Royals then went on an 8-0 run, getting points from Komara and Brii Redfearn take a 10-point lead. Lancaster Bible ended the quarter on a 6-0 tilt of its own but EMU held a 17-13 lead after one.
  • Quarter two belonged to the Royals as they dominated from start to finish. The Royals outscored the Chargers 20-9 in the second frame and shot a blistering 50% from the field. Price, Hamlet and Komara scored 16 of the Royals 20 points and EMU took a 37-22 lead into the half.
  • Komara drained a pair of free throws and Price hit a layup to start the third and pushed the EMU lead to 19. Hamlet and Redfearn threes sandwiched a pair of Charger free throws to give EMU a 49-26 lead midway through the third. In the final minute of the quarter, however, with the Royals ahead 56-34, LBC went on its own run, scoring nine of the last 11 points to cut into the lead and trail 43-58.
  • Lancaster Bible scored six straight to start the fourth before a Hamlet layup stopped the momentum. Baskets from Hamlet and Lauryn Moore padded the Royals lead but the Chargers continued to scrap, using full-court pressure to chip away at the lead. They were able to get as close as 13 but the Royals hit their free throws down the stretch to put the game away.
  • Four of five Royals starters were in double figures as Hamlet led the way with 23. Komara added 16, Redfearn finished with 13 and eight rebounds while Price tallied 12.
