Box Score Harrisonburg, Va. - The Eastern Mennonite women's soccer team continued their trek through the heart of ODAC play on Saturday, traveling to Guilford College to take on the Quakers. The Royals held the offense of Guilford at bay, while fighting to get something going on the offensive end. After a tough battle, the Royals settled with a tie against their ODAC opponent, both scoring just one in the contest.
Highlights
- Guilford found themselves on the scoreboard first in the match, scoring in the 23rd minute of the match. Katie Kaznowski worked to find an open shot, sinking it past the goalie for the Royals to give the Quakers a 1-0 advantage.
- The Royals answered quickly to equalize the contest. In the 25th minute, EMU kept offensive pressure on Guilford. Samm Livermore took a wide shot, but the Royals weren't done. Livermore found Hailey Smith with an open look who sank the shot, making the score 1-1.
- Aja Laun made key saves in the final minute of the first half, knocking down back-to-back shots from Guilford's Gracie Mayer to keep the tally tied heading into halftime.
- The second half was an intense back-and-forth between the opponents, both playing tough defense to keep the score tied. In the final minute, Laun made one last key save in regulation, knocking a shot away from Guilford's Crystal Rivas.
- EMU almost walked it off in the waning minutes of overtime with Livermore and Hannah York both knocking shots on goal, but both shots were saved by the Quakers' goalkeeper.
- Guilford kept offensive pressure on the Royals throughout second overtime, but EMU was able to keep the score tied until the end of play.
