Harrisonburg, Va. - The EMU women's soccer team hosted No. 25 University of Lynchburg in a midweek ODAC contest and contained the powerful Hornet offense to give themselves a chance into the final minutes. A match that went into the second half at 0-0, the Royals fell in the contest, but showed that they are ever-improving force in the ODAC. 

Highlights

• The Royals' back line was in full force the first half, holding the Lynchburg offense at bay. Highlighted by Laura Troyer and Maria Bettilyon, EMU consistently thwarted the Hornets' attack to keep their team in the match. 
• The Hornets were able to get nine shots off in the first half, but first-year goalkeeper Aja Laun became a wall for the Royals, swatting away eight shots in the first half alone. 
• Heading into the second half, much was the same. The Royals continued to keep their wall high in the back line and Laun was playing well in the goal. Two back-to-back shots in the 47th minute were pushed away to keep the score even at 0-0. 
• In the 52nd minute, first-year Hailey Smith found an opening to take a shot, but just missed the mark wide of the goal. 
• The Hornets broke through in the 63rd minute, but the Royals continued to press on through the end of the match. Despite falling 1-0, the Royals held the nationally-ranked opponent to just one goal. 

By The Numbers

• 14 - Aja Laun continued to be impressive in the goal for the Royals in the match. She notched 14 saves on the night, with a good amount of them being diving stops from the powerful Hornets. 
• The Royals are just the second team this season to hold the Hornets to one goal. 

What's Next

• The Royals are back on the road this weekend, heading to Emory & Henry to take on the Wasps in a non-conference match on Saturday.
