Box Score The EMU soccer women won on the road at Emory & Henry on Saturday by a score of 1-0. The Royals improve their hot-start record to 7-1, playing in their first conference game of the season.
Eastern Mennonite's women extend what is now the single best start to a season in program history with their third straight 1-0 shutout.
The first half was a stalemate as neither team was able to control the ball in their offensive zone. EMU was able to outshoot the Wasps 7-6 in the first half before going into halftime scoreless.
The second half was midway through before a weather delay stopped play for over 30 minutes. Shortly back into action in the 72nd minute, after a nice connection of passes pushing the ball up, Lily Dodson (Brightwood, Va./Madison County) found space from the top of box and nailed what turned out to be the game winner.
The Royals finished with 16 shot attempts while Emory & Henry only had nine. Leah Wenger (Broadway, Va./Eastern Mennonite) had five saves in her fifth shutout of the year.
Eastern Mennonite returns home on Wednesday when they host conference foe Virginia Wesleyan at 4:00pm.
