Early Goal Holds Strong In Royals Win

Box Score

The EMU soccer women won at home against Greensboro by a score of 1-0 on Sunday. The Royals improve to 5-1 on the season looking fresh after having the previous ten days off.

EMU jumped on the board early despite only two shots in the first half. In the 12th minute Hannah York (Richmond, Va./John Randolph Tucker) cut off a clearing attempt by the Pride goalkeeper in the offensive zone. She collected the ball then sent in a laser shot to the top right of the net past the diving goalkeeper.

Greensboro fired off 10 shots in the first half without finding the net going into halftime.

The Royals were able to create more offensive pressure in the second half getting off seven shots. Greensboro had opportunities in the box, but stellar play by the EMU back line prevented the Pride from
tying the game late before the final horn sounded.

Leah Wenger (Harrisonburg, Va./Eastern Mennonite) had six saves in net posting her fourth shutout of the season.

The Royals return to action on Wednesday, Sept. 25 when they travel to Southern Virginia to play at 5:00pm.
