The EMU basketball women fell on the road at Shenandoah on Wednesday by a score of 60-46. The Royals fall to 9-15 on the season and 6-11 in ODAC play which will put them on the road next Tuesday, either at Roanoke or Bridgewater for the First Tound of the ODAC Tournament.

EMU wraps up the regular season on Saturday at home against Hollins. Game time is at 2:00pm with Senior Recognition ceremonies going on before the game to honor the five seniors.

Both teams played even basketball to start the game. The game was tied at 11 after the first quarter and stayed tied until 7:45 in the second quarter when Shenandoah found some breathing room with a 5-0 run.

Lexi Deffenbaugh (Fishersville, Va./Wilson Memorial) made a three pointer and combined with Chrissy Delawder (Broadway, Va./Broadway) for four free throws to get the Royals back within two points after a Hornet basket. Shenandoah ended the second quarter on a 6-0 run to go into halftime leading 30-22.

Shenandoah kept their lead in the third quarter as both teams scored 16 in the period. EMU climbed back within three points with 58 seconds to go in the third after Jourdyn Friend (Richmond, Va./Meadowbrook) made a layup and Delawder followed with a three pointer. The Hornets made two baskets in the last minute of the third to enter the fourth quarter leading by eight.

Jess Washington (Chesapeake, Va./Great Bridge) made a layup to begin the fourth, but the Shenandoah defense kept the Royals from coming back to take the lead. The Hornets kept EMU from scoring for the final five minutes as they added to their lead.

The Royals shot 28.1% (16-57) and 14.3% (3-21) from behind the arc for their lowest scoring output of the season. Shenandoah shot 43.8% (28-64) from the field and 14.3% (1-7) from three point range.

Emily McCombs (Culpeper, Va./Eastern View) led EMU with nine points and had five rebounds. Precious Waddy (Richmond, Va./Henrico) scored eight points off the bench and had two assists. Lexi Dean (Elkton, Va./East Rockingham) and Delawder both had seven points and combined for three blocks.

Shannon Kuhn led Shenandoah with 18 points and seven rebounds. Olivia Weinel scored 12 off the bench.
