Box Score EMU's volleyball women had their moments in Friday night's ODAC clash with Washington and Lee, but in the end the preseason favorites were too strong, taking a 3-0 sweep from the Royals.
The women slip to 5-6 on the season as they prepare for tomorrow's tri-match. Eastern Mennonite opens the day at 11:00am with a conference match against Shenandoah before closing with Lancaster Bible College at 3:00pm.
Eastern Mennonite went point-for-point early against the powerful Generals, working to a 9-9 tie. W&L used a quick 5-0 jab, however, to gain control and push to a 25-15 win.
In the second, the Royals again forged a 9-9 tie only to see Washington and Lee open up a seven-point lead at 19-12. EMU answered with a 7-2 run, fighting back to within 21-19, before the visitors surged for a 25-20 decision.
W&L then ran to a 14-6 lead in the third and never looked back in a 25-15 final.
Janna Williams (Kenbridge, Va./Kenston Forest) had seven kills for the women and freshman Meredith Stinnette (Lynch Station, Va./Altavista) added six. Setter Jasmine Johnson (Staunton, Va./Robert E. Lee) had 14 assists and six digs.
Defensively, libero Skyler Johnson (Harrisonburg, Va./Harrisonburg) led all players with nine digs. Beck Hoskins (Danville, Va./Westover Christian Academy) had three blocks.
Meg Guignon led the Generals with 12 kills. Elly Cosgrove had 10 and four blocks.
