Box Score EMU's soccer women played well in their ODAC opener on the road Wednesday, but came home with a 1-0 loss to Roanoke College.
The Royals withstood a lot of pressure from the aggressive Maroons, only to see a goal in the 14th minute make the difference. Roanoke put one shot off the cross bar in the 13th, before Kirstin Figel found net a minute later.
On the offensive end, any of Eastern Mennonite's chances were snuffed out by the RC backline, as they held the Royals from even attempting a shot. The story of the game was played out on Roanoke's offensive half, with EMU keeper Becca Borg (Gig harbor, Wash./Peninsula) holding the game close.
Borg finished with a season high 15 saves as the Maroons fired 30 shots.
The Royals slide to 1-6 on the season with their second consecutive 1-0 loss. The women hit the road again on Saturday, playing a non-conference game at Salem College in Winston-Salem, N.C. The Spirits went to the NCAA National Tournament last fall, earning the automatic bid from the Great South Athletic Conference.
