Box Score The chilly and rainy weather on Monday couldn't slow down the EMU field hockey women, as they rolled over visiting Sweet Briar College 10-0 in Harrisonburg. It was the second straight shutout for the Royals.
Lorraine Armstrong (Greencastle, Pa./Greencastle-Antrim), who also had the game-winner in EMU's 1-0 win over Ferrum on Saturday, got things started against the Vixens, hitting the cage in the fourth minute with an assist from Melissa Cox (Mountville, Pa./Hempfield). Mariah Martin (Greencastle, Pa./Greencastle-Antrim) drove in a long rebounded shot in the 17th minute for a little breathing room.
The wheels finally got moving at full speed in the 24th minute when Emily Augsburger (Lancaster, Pa./Lancaster Mennonite) nailed an unassisted goal. Mikayla Martin (Colorado Springs, Colo./Lewis Palmer) scored and Emily Musselman (Telford, Pa./Souderton) hit the cage twice as the Royals took a 6-0 lead into halftime.
Alyssa Mautz (Hampton, Va./Bethel) scored her first collegiate goal early in the second, followed by two goals from Cox and a second from Armstrong for the final 10-0 tally.
Cox and Armstrong highlighted the night, each scoring twice and assisting on another goal. Musselman had two goals, while Augsburger had one score and one assist.
Junior Hannah Daley (Lothian, Md./Southern) made a save as the goalie in the first half, before switching to the field in the second when she notched her first career assist. Kelsey Troyer (Lancaster, Pa./Lancaster Mennonite) played the final 35 in between the pipes.
Eastern Mennonite is now 2-5 on the season. The women will try to extend their two-game winning streak on Saturday when they host St. Mary's at 4:00pm.
