The Royals' second-half comeback came up just short, and with it the window closed on the soccer women's chance to make the ODAC Tournament.  In a rescheduled game played on a rainy night, Guilford made their opening goals stick in a 2-1 decision over EMU in Greensboro, N.C.

The women entered the game knowing they needed to win all three of their contests this week to get into the eight-team conference tourney.  But it was the Quakers who struck first, with Kelli Uresti scoring in the fourth minute.

Uresti scored again in the 20th minute to a build a 2-0 cushion.

Eastern Mennonite couldn't generate many good chance over the first 45 minutes, but stepped up the offensive pressure in the second half.  Finally in the 78th minute, Amanda Williams (Millsboro, Del./Delmarva Christian) knocked in a corner kick off the foot of Morgan Hill (Martinsville, Va./Carlisle) to cut the lead in half.

The final 12 minutes were quiet, however, as the women earned one more corner but no more shots.

The Royals held a 6-4 advantage in shots in the second half, but were out-shot 12-9 for the game.  Shots on goal were close, with GC having a slight edge at 6-5.  Williams put two shots on goal for EMU, with Marcy Smucker (Woodward, Pa./Penns Valley), Emma Petersheim (Linville, Va./Eastern Mennonite) and Logann Braun (Hagerstown, Md./North Hagerstown) each putting one on target.

Keeper Becca Borg (Gig Harbor, Wash./Peninsula) made four saves.

EMU falls to 0-8-1 in the ODAC with the loss.  They possess just one point in the standings, and cannot make up the difference with Guilford as the Quakers are now 4-6 with 12 points and tied for seventh.  The Royals play again tomorrow against Hollins (0-9 ODAC) before closing the year at Randolph (3-6 ODAC) on Saturday.
