Royals Fall At R-MC As Borg Moves Up Saves List

Box Score

EMU's soccer women lost at Randolph-Macon Tuesday afternoon, dropping a 7-0 ODAC final.  Keeper Becca Borg (Gig Harbor, Wash./Peninsula) had her sixth consecutive double digit save effort, and moved into second place on the EMU Career Saves list.

The host Yellow Jackets established control early on, grabbing a 2-0 lead by the 14th minute.  R-MC was up 4-0 by halftime and scored early in the second to produce the final margin.

Morgan Hill (Martinsville, Va./Carlisle) attempted the Royals' only shot off a free kick in the 74th minute.  The women earned a corner off it, but couldn't manage another attempt.

Borg kept busy in net, making eight saves in the first half and seven more in the second.  Over the past six games, the senior has made between 13-15 saves per game, averaging 14.0 over the stretch.  Borg now has 387 career saves, moving past Joy Shaiebly into second place all-time.  Shaiebly has 377.  Abby Diffenbach holds the program record with 457 saves.

This season, Borg has a career high 117 saves and holds a .741 save percentage, also a career best.

Eastern Mennonite (1-11 / 0-5 ODAC) has one more game against a top tier team from the ODAC during this tough stretch, and it's likely the toughest.  The Royals are at defending NCAA Champion Lynchburg College on Friday.  Game time with the Hornets, who are ranked No. 4 in the NSCAA national poll, is 7:00pm.
