Short-Handed Royals Frustrate Nationally Ranked Hornets

Box Score

Despite playing without a handful of injured starters, EMU's soccer women played with No. 6 Lynchburg for the first half.  Then the Hornets' depth took over as they pulled away for a 6-0 decision.

Backup keeper Brianna Stanard (Spotsylvania, Va./Spotsylvania) was the story of the game for the Royals, as she started in place of injured Becca Borg (Gig Harbor, Wash./Peninsula).  Playing her first minutes of the year, Stanard was tested early and answered well.  The freshman made her first save just 1:59 in and racked up 11 impressive saves in the half.  LC scored in the 10th minute and led 1-0 at the break, despite a 26-0 advantage in shots.

The powerful Hornets took over after halftime.  They scored in the 46th and 54th minutes to go up 3-0, and then their bench added three more for the final margin.

Emma Beachy (Harrisonburg, Va./Eastern Mennonite) and Sam Winkler (Round Hill, Va./Woodgrove) took Eastern Mennonite's only shots.  Stanard finished with 15 saves.

The Royals fall to 3-5-1 with the loss, including 1-2 in the ODAC.  Next up is a home date with Roanoke College this Wednesday at 7:00pm.
