Box Score It was a tough loss Tuesday afternoon at Bridgewater, and the EMU soccer women will be left scoreboard watching over the final ODAC games of the season on Wednesday. The Royals still sit in eighth place in the league standings as they look to advance to the ODAC Tournament for the second straight year.
At 4-8 in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference, EMU stands a full win ahead of both Sweet Briar and Emory & Henry, who each play Wednesday. The women hold a head-to-head tie-breaker over SBC, who plays at 11th-place Randolph. Emory & Henry owns the tie-breaker against the Royals, but have a tough task in hosting second-place Washington and Lee. If Sweet Briar and EHC each win, setting up a three-way tie, the Wasps would seem to have the advantage in that situation.
Eastern Mennonite is dealing with a handful of injuries, which was evident in the 10-0 loss to Bridgewater. The women entered the game without either regular goalkeeper, as both junior Becca Borg (Gig Harbor, Wash./Peninsula) and freshman Brianna Stanard (Spotsylvania, Va./Spotsylvania) were out with injuries. That put midfielder Morgan Hill (Martinsville, Va./Carlisle) in goal, further straining a short roster. However, Hill was also injured early against BC, throwing another field player, Nora Osei (Springfield, Va./West Springfield), in front of the net.
The result against a talented Eagles team got out of hand quickly, as Bridgewater scored six goals in the first half and never looked back.
EMU had six shots in the game, all in the second half. Sara Shenk Moreno (Harrisonburg, Va./Harrisonburg) put three attempts on goal. Hill charted four saves before leaves, while Osei had nine saves in relief. The team also picked up a pair of defensive saves.
The Royals end the regular season with an overall record of 6-11-1.
