Box Score The EMU volleyball women suffered a 3-0 setback at home Friday, falling in ODAC play to Roanoke College. The Royals will turn around quickly, starting Saturday's Senior Recognition match against Hollins at noon, a mere 16 hours after the loss to the Maroons.
Eastern Mennonite had an early edge in set one and pushed out to an 18-13 lead. Roanoke then scored five in a row to erase the lead and added another 5-0 run to jump in front 23-19. The women got back within 23-22, but RC closed things out with two points to win 25-22.
The Royals scored the first point in the second set, but Roanoke scored the next 11 and never looked back in a 25-11 decision. The Maroons used a 6-0 run in set three to open up a 13-8 edge. EMU quickly fought back, eventually tying the score at 22-22 after back-to-back service aces from Mattie Lehman (New Paris, Ind./Bethany Christian). The teams were tied again at 23-23 before Roanoke used a pair of kills to win, 25-23.
Katie Miller (San Antonio, Tex./Brandeis) was one of the women's most consistent players, racking up 18 digs from the back row. Skyler Johnson (Harrisonburg, Va./Harrisonburg) added 11 digs.
Regan Cook (Staunton, Va./Robert E. Lee) had six kills and two blocks. Jasmine Johnson (Staunton, Va./Robert E. Lee) and Erin Mays (Ridgeway, Va./Westover Christian) each had 11 set assists. Mays and Lehman each finished with two aces.
Eastern Mennonite is now 7-18 overall and 0-9 in the ODAC. Someone will get their first conference win in Saturday's match, as Hollins also enters 0-9 in the league.
