Women Set Program Record On Homecoming

Box Score

EMU's soccer women broke a program record by scoring 10 goals in a Homecoming win over Hollins University Saturday afternoon in Harrisonburg.  Freshman Rachel Breidigan (Douglassville, Pa./Daniel Boone) netted a hat trick as the Royals improved to 3-4 in the ODAC with the victory over short-handed Hollins.

Eastern Mennonite scored quickly against Hollins, which played with just eight women all day.  By the ninth minute, the Royals led 2-0.  They dominated the opening 45 minutes and led 8-0 at halftime.  The women pulled a few players in the second and ended the game playing eight-on-eight.  They added two more scores in the frame for the final margin.

The 10 goals in the win broke the program record of nine, which had been done four previous times.

Breidigan came off the bench to score three goals, all in the first half.  They were the first scores of her collegiate career.

Freshman defender Hannah Walker (Chesapeake, Va./Grassfield) also scored her first collegiate goal, while Kristyn Garlow (Bristow, Va./Patriot) and Elisa Ott (Lancaster, Pa./Penn Manor) each tallied their score of the year.  Sara Shenk Moreno (Harrisonburg, Va./Harrisonburg), Amanda Williams (Millsboro, De./Delmarva Christian), Sierra Martin (Glenwood Springs, Colo./Glenwood Springs) each had goals, while Moreno and Naomi Good (Columbia, Pa./Lancaster Mennonite) each had assists.

Keepers Brianna Stanard (Spotsylvania, Va./Spotsylvania) and Becca Borg (Gig Harbor, Wash./Peninsula) split time in goal for the shutout.

The women sit in a four-way tie for sixth place in the ODAC standings, and are 5-7-1 overall.  The Royals get a long road trip on Wednesday playing at Virginia Wesleyan with a 7:00pm start time.

Hall of Honor - Ellie Lind Holsopple
As part of the pre-game ceremonies, new Hall of Honor inductee Ellie Lind Holsopple led the soccer women onto the field for the starting lineups.  Holsopple, the program's all-time leader in career points, goals and assists, was inducted into the Hall of Honor at a ceremony Saturday morning as part of EMU's Homecoming.  Click here to see more information on her.
