Box Score The soccer women scored first at Hollins Saturday afternoon and never let up, rolling to a 5-1 ODAC win. Sophomore Elisa Ott (Lancaster, Pa./Penn Manor) netted her first career hat trick as Eastern Mennonite improves to 7-2 overall and 2-1 in the conference.
The two teams traded shots off the post in the opening minutes, but the Royals broke off zero in the 15th minute when Morgan Hill (Martinsville, Va./Carlisle) assisted Kendall Moyer (Fincastle, Va./James River). Ott then made it 2-0 with a goal in the 30th minute.
Hollins suddenly sliced the lead in half with a score in the 52nd minute, making it 2-1, but EMU controlled the rest of the game.
Eight minutes after Hollins' score, Ott picked up a saved shot from Nora Osei (Springfield, Va./West Springfield) and got around the goalie for her second goal. Then in the 70th minute, Ott received an assist from Osei to complete her hat trick and make it 4-1. With less than seven minutes to play, Hollins fouled the Royals in the box, and Hill knocked in the resulting penalty kick for the final 5-1 tally.
EMU dominated play as evidenced by a 31-9 shot advantage, to go with eight corner kicks. They also had a 16-3 favoring in shots on goal. Becca Borg (Gig Harbor, Wash./Peninsula) made two saves.
Ott fired eight shots, including six on target, to earn her hat trick. Hill's goal was her first of the season to go with her ODAC-leading seven assists.
Eastern Mennonite draws an intriguing matchup with Shenandoah on Tuesday night, with both teams exceeding their preseason poll predictions. The Hornets (3-0-1, second) were tabbed sixth in the preseason poll while EMU (2-1, seventh) came in 11th. Game time in Harrisonburg is 7:00pm.
