Box Score The EMU volleyball women snapped their four-match losing skid Friday night in Reading, Pa., taking down Alvernia on the road. The Royals won in straight sets to improve to 7-9. With 11 matches left in the season, they have already equaled their most wins since 2009.
Eastern Mennonite led most of game one, and finished on a 10-4 run to win 25-19. The women scored first in game two and led by as many as seven points in a 25-20 decision. The Crusaders led by as many as four points in game three, but EMU tied it up midway through and then stole a 25-23 clincher.
The Royals hit very well, finishing with a .222 attack clip. It was the fourth time this season they hit over .200 as a team. D Probst (Willow Street, Pa./Lancaster Mennonite) led both teams with 12 kills and hit .360. Rebecca Hardy (Port Republic, Va./Eastern Mennonite) was right behind her with 11 kills. Rachel Kennel (Parkesburg, Pa./Lancaster Mennonite) finished with 11 digs, nine kills and two blocks.
Dani Driver (Cheverly, Md./Elizabeth Seton)had 27 set assists in her two games, while Jessica Goertzen (Goessel, Kan./Goessel) lofted 14 helpers in one game. Katie Miller (San Antonio, Tex./Brandeis) led the back row with 14 digs, and had two service aces along with Driver and Alena Yoder (Elkhart, Ind./Bethany Christian).
The Royals stay in Pennsylvania for a match at Lancaster Bible Saturday morning at 11:00am.
