EMU's hit a speed bump Thursday afternoon in Frederick, Md., getting only a late goal in a 2-1 loss at Hood College.  The Royals take their second loss of the year with the decision and slip to 6-2 overall.

The Blazers came out aggressively and scored in the 11th minute on a corner kick.  Eastern Mennonite regrouped and had a few scoring chances, but then Hood hit the net again with a header in the 38th minute.

EMU kept pushing and finally broke off nil late, as Sam Winkler (Round Hill, Va./Woodgrove) scored with just five seconds to play to produce the final 2-1 deficit.

Shots were relatively even in the game, with Hood up 9-8.  Each team had four shots on goal.  Winkler and Sophie Smith (Monrovia, Md./Linganore) each had a pair of shots, while Kristyn Garlow (Bristow, Va./Patriot) added a shot on goal.

Becca Borg (Gig Harbor, Wash./Peninsula) made a pair of saves in goal for EMU.

The women were playing without starting forward Nora Osei (Springfield, Va./West Springfield) and starting defender Naomi Good (Columbia, Pa./Lancaster Mennonite).

After the non-conference loss, the Royals are back in the ODAC for the remainder of the year.  Their next game is at Hollins this Saturday, with a start time of 2:00pm.
