Box Score The EMU volleyball women dropped a non-conference contest at Southern Virginia Tuesday night, falling in straight sets to the Knights. The loss drops the Royals to 6-8 overall.
The women scored the first point of the night, but the home team quickly grabbed momentum with a 15-9 lead, rolling to a 25-16 win in game one.
EMU played even with the Knights in game two until a 5-0 run put them in a 15-11 deficit. The Royals would get as close as three before losing 25-18. A quick start for Southern Virginia in the third game was too much for the women, as the night closed on a 25-10 score.
The Royals hit just .061 as a team, and their three service aces were the second-lowest total of the season. SVU, meanwhile, hit .272 with 10 service aces.
Kayley Argenbright (Fishersville, Va./Wilson Memorial) was a bright spot with five kills on just nine attempts, to go a total of three blocks. D Probst (Willow Street, Pa./Lancaster Mennonite) had six kills and Kaitlin Miller (Sellersville, Pa./Christopher Dock) added five.
Libero Katie Miller (San Antonio, Tex./Brandeis) had 10 digs and a pair of service aces.
Senior Rachel Kennel (Parkesburg, Pa./Lancaster Mennonite), the second-leading hitter on the team, missed the match due to an academic commitment.
Eastern Mennonite returns to ODAC play on Thursday, hosting Emory & Henry. Game time in Yoder Arena is 7:00pm.
