Box Score The Royals had their modest ODAC-winning streak snapped Saturday afternoon. Inconsistency plagued the volleyball women in a 3-1 loss at Roanoke College.
EMU jumped on the home team for a 5-2 lead in game one, before the wheels fell off in a 25-12 decision. The women regrouped in the second but gave up the lead late in a 25-22 loss.
Game three was full of momentum swings, with Eastern Mennonite having a 10-3 run but the Maroons answering with an 8-0 streak. The Royals had the last laugh, closing on a 4-0 zip to win 26-24.
EMU surged to a 24-17 lead in game four, but then gave up nine unanswered points to fail in forcing a fifth set, losing 26-24.
The Royals hit just .060 as a team and were led by McKenna Carter (Waynesboro, Va./Stuarts Draft). The freshman middle had nine kills and six blocks, including two solo stuffs. D Probst (Willow Street, Pa./Lancaster Mennonite) finished with eight kills and Rebecca Hardy (Port Republic, Va./Eastern Mennonite) added six.
The women had 10 service aces, led by three from Katie Miller (San Antonio, Tex./Brandeis), but also gave up 14 aces to Roanoke. Hardy led the back row with 13 digs.
The loss drops EMU to 6-6 overall and 2-1 in the ODAC. They have another key conference date on the road Tuesday, playing at Virginia Wesleyan.
