Box Score Two days after picking up their first conference win in four years, EMU's volleyball women now have their second. The Royals picked up steam at Hollins Friday night to take a 3-1 win on the road. Riding a three-match winning streak, Eastern Mennonite is now 6-5 overall and 2-0 in the ODAC.
Each team had leads in the game one, but the women rallied with a 5-2 ending to win 25-22. Hollins was in the lead much of game two, however, and won 25-20.
After falling behind 8-4 in the third game, Eastern Mennonite changed gears. An 8-1 run put EMU up 14-11 and changed the momentum of the night. The Royals ended the set on a 19-5 tear for a 25-15 win, and then never trailed in game four to take a 25-20 clincher.
EMU hit .223 as a team, getting around Hollins' formidable blockers. D Probst (Willow Street, Pa./Lancaster Mennonite) powered a team best 17 kills, with Rachel Kennel (Parkesburg, Pa./Lancaster Mennonite) landing 14. McKenna Carter (Waynesboro, Va./Stuarts Draft) was right behind with 13 kills. Dani Driver (Cheverly, Md./Elizabeth Seton) easily had the best night of her career, lofting 51 assists.
The Royals also served very well, dropping in seven aces to just three service errors. Katie Miller (San Antonio, Tex./Brandeis), Kaitlin Miller (Sellersville, Pa./Christopher Dock) and Kennel each had two ace serves. Katie Miller was also a leader in the back row, picking up a match high 20 digs. Rebecca Hardy (Port Republic, Va./Eastern Mennonite) added 14.
The women return to the Roanoke Valley tomorrow afternoon, playing at Roanoke College at 3:00pm.
