Box Score For the EMU women's soccer team, it was more about earning a spot in the ODAC Tournament as opposed to if they won or lost. The Royals, who were hit hard by injuries over the final month of the season, qualified for their first ODAC Tournament in three years but were eliminated in the quarterfinals Saturday, falling 12-1 at top-seeded Lynchburg.
The Hornets, who are also ranked No. 13 in the nation, set the tempo early by scoring three goals over the opening 12 minutes.
In her final game, senior Erica Detweiler (Hickory, N.C./Fred T. Foard) netted the lone goal for the Royals in the 43rd minute. She stuck in a free kick from 25 yards out for her first score since her freshman season.
Lynchburg led 4-1 at the half, and EMU's 13-woman roster couldn't keep up with them in the second.
Keeper Becca Borg (Gig Harbor, Wash./Peninsula) made a career high 18 saves. Detweiler attempted the only shot for the women.
Eastern Mennonite wraps up 10-9 on the year, a vast improvement after producing just three wins in each of Coach Sue Kolb's first two seasons. It was also the first time since 2008 that the women have finished over .500.
Junior forward Nora Osei (Springfield, Va./West Springfield) led the ODAC in goals and points much of the year and finished third at the completion of the regular season with 14 goals and 31 points. Sophomore midfielder Morgan Hill (Martinsville, Va./Carlisle) entered the postseason tied for first in the ODAC with nine assists.
With Detweiler being the only senior on the team, the experience of this season should help the Royals reach new heights in 2014.
