Box Score The Royals picked up an important ODAC win Saturday afternoon in Harrisonburg, using an early goal to hold off Emory & Henry, 1-0. EMU's soccer women improve to 8-3, giving them their most wins since finishing 9-8 in 2008.
Just 5:29 into the game, Nora Osei (Springfield, Va./West Springfield) scored on the first attempt of the game. EMU's forward took a couple of dribbles in traffic and then hit the net for her ODAC-leading 11th goal of the season.
The women had another good look in the 27th minute, but Kendall Moyer's (Fincastle, Va./James River) shot was stopped by the EHC keeper.
Great play continued through the second half, when the Wasps failed to convert on two dangerous scoring opportunities. Eastern Mennonite worked through a couple of starters heading to the bench because of dehydration and earned the shutout, their fourth of the season.
Emory & Henry ended with a 12-8 advantage in shots, including 5-3 on goal. Corner kicks were at a premium all day, with EMU holding a 4-1 edge.
Osei fired four shots, including two on goal. Becca Borg (Gig Harbor, Wash./Peninsula) had a great game in goal and finished with five saves.
The Royals improve to 3-2 in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference, and take over sole possession of sixth place. The women hit the road on Wednesday for a game at Randolph-Macon. Game time in Ashland is 4:15pm.
