The Royals ran into a tough opponent Wednesday night, hosting the ODAC's second-place team in Randolph-Macon.  Eastern Mennonite played well, and had the contest tied at one game apiece before eventually losing 3-1.

Despite giving up the first two points of the contest, EMU stayed calm and tied the score at 14-14.  The Yellow Jackets broke off the knot with four straight to take control and win, 25-19.

In game two, Katie Miller (San Antonio, Tex./Brandeis) landed a pair of service aces as the women took a quick 3-0 lead.  The Royals led by as many as four before the visitors tied the score at 19-19.  The teams traded leads until McKenna Carter (Waynesboro, Va./Stuarts Draft) and Rachel Kennel (Parkesburg, Pa./Lancaster Mennonite) hammered back-to-back kills as EMU won, 25-23.

The Yellow Jackets came out on all cylinders in games three and four, however, grabbing early leads to close the match on 25-15 and 25-12 scores.

Kayla Smeltzer (Richmond, Va./Maggie L. Walker Gov.) put down eight kills on just 14 attempts with no errors.  Kennel had a team high nine kills along with two blocks.  Carter and Kayley Argenbright (Fishersville, Va./Wilson Memorial) each added a pair of stuffs.

Miller finished with 17 digs and three service aces.  Jessica Goertzen (Goessel, Kan./Goessel) charted 33 set assists and 13 digs.

The women slide to 9-13 overall and 2-6 in the ODAC while Randolph-Macon improves to 16-6 and 7-1.  Next up EMU gets first-place Washington and Lee on Friday night.  Game time in Harrisonburg is 6:30pm.
