Young Soccer Women Forge New Direction With 2-0 Win

Box Score

Two games into the 2012 season, the young EMU soccer women are already making a run at last year's win total.  With Wednesday's 2-0 trumping of Cairn, the Lady Royals are now 2-0 after finishing 2011 with three wins.

The women looked a little sluggish in the first half against the Highlanders but got things rolling in the second.

Forward Nora Osei (Springfield, VA/West Springfield) scored in the 61st minute to put EMU up 1-0.  Morgan Hill (Martinsville, VA/Carlisle) picked up an assist with a nice pass.  Five minutes later, Elisa Ott (Lancaster, PA/Penn Manor) knocked in an unassisted goal to provide the cushion and final score.

Freshman keeper Becca Borg (Gig Harbor, WA/Peninsula) made a number of nice stops and finished with six saves to earn her first collegiate shutout.

Eastern Mennonite had a 16-9 edge in shots and 10-2 in corner kicks.

The Lady Royals play their third straight home game Saturday morning, hosting Marymount (Va.) at 11:00am.
