Box Score Untimely errors cost Eastern Mennonite Tuesday night, as the volleyball women gave up late leads in both games one and two before dropping a 3-0 sweep at conference rival Shenandoah.
The women scored the first two points of the night and pushed out to a 16-9 lead. The Lady Royals still led 21-16 and 23-19, but ended the game on four straight attack errors to lose 25-23.
EMU led by as many as five points in game two, and led 22-20 late in the game. But another run by Shenandoah to end the game stole another decision, 25-22.
Rattled by the first two games, the Lady Royals fell behind 6-0 in game three and never recovered, dropping a 25-14 decision.
Despite landing nine service aces, Eastern Mennonite was plagued by poor hitting, making 29 attack errors to out-weigh 20 kills. Sara Ritchie (Harrisonburg, VA/Turner Ashby) had a team best six kills. Both she and Katie Martin (Stuarts Draft, VA/Grace Christian) had three service aces, while Jessica Goertzen (Goessel, KS/Goessel) added two.
Katie Miller (San Antonio, TX/Brandeis) had 15 digs to lead both teams. Mattie Lehman (New Paris, IN/Bethany Christian) had 14 set assists and 10 digs.
The tough loss drops the women to 2-10 overall and 0-5 in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference. They will try to snap their losing skid over three straight home contests, starting with Ferrum on Thursday.
