Box Score Still in search of their first ODAC victory, the EMU soccer women hosted Guilford on a beautiful Saturday afternoon. The Quakers enjoyed the weather more than the women did, however, taking a 6-0 decision.
Guilford scored 21:27 into play, but the game stayed close until just before the half. The Quakers went up 2-0 on an unlucky own-goal with less than three minutes to go, and then put in one more in the final minute when a free kick slipped through keeper Becca Borg's (Gig Harbor, WA/Peninsula) hands.
The two late goals seemed to deflate the Lady Royals in the final stanza. Despite a few nice passing connections, all of EMU's second-half shots sailed a couple of feet wide of the goal. Guilford added three more scores in the final 45 for the final 6-0 margin.
The Royals had seven shots in the game, with Morgan Hill (Martinsville, VA/Carlisle) and Elisa Ott (Lancaster, PA/Penn Manor) each getting two. Carli Taylor (Germantown, MD/St. Johns) had the only shot on goal.
Borg finished with 11 saves, including a number of impressive diving stops on GC breakaways.
The loss drops the women to 3-5 overall and 0-3 in the conference. They will try for their first ODAC win Wednesday afternoon at Sweet Briar.
